MyPlate from USDA replaces food pyramid

On June 2nd, the USDA let go of that old pyramid and released a new food icon for our nation, a plate that shows what we ought to find in front of us at each meal. It’s a simple and colorful icon that should make it easy for people to identify a healthy, well-balanced meal.

I can’t help but look at this graphic and think of our FoodHub producers, whose products all fit into at least one of these categories, and FoodHub buyers, who are searching (and now finding) the best of them to fill plates for happy customers. So let’s raise our little glass of dairy in a toast to the new and improved plate and to all those who work so hard to fill this plate with good food.

ODA offers cost share program and “mock audit” for Good Agricultural Practices certification May 26, 2011

Oregon farmers currently selling to schools and other institutions, or those interested in doing so, are invited to learn more about Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) certification by attending an onsite mock audit, farm tour, and discussion presented by the Oregon Department of Agriculture. Institutional buyers interested in learning more about GAP certification requirements are also invited to attend.
